Out of them shall come songs of thanksgiving, and the voices of those who celebrate.

January 6-February 17

Epiphany (ee-PIH-fuhny), meaning "manifestation" or "shining forth", is the celebration of God's incarnation in the child Jesus, and also that His gift of grace is extended to all, both Jew and Gentile. Epiphany contains several important festivals: First, the day of Epiphany celebrates the visit of the magi and their prophetic gifts declaring Jesus to be Messiah, priest, and king. Next, Jesus' baptism reminds us that Jesus came to fulfill all righteousness - and God the Father declares that Jesus is His Son. Finally, near the close of the Epiphany season comes the Transfiguration, commemorating the day when Christ, for just a brief moment, pulled back the curtain and let the disciples have just a glimpse of His Godly glory - and, once again, God the Father declares that Jesus is His Son. The two colors of Epiphany are White and Green - White for the glory and purity of Christ, and Green for spiritual growth which comes from hearing Christ's revelation as God. At the end of Epiphany, we come down from the mountaintop and begin the penitent walk toward Christ's passion and death in the season of Lent.

Oktoberfest 2011

GermanFest replaces Oktoberfest this year as a benefit fundraiser hosted by SonRise every year in late September/early October.  It's a time for singing, dancing, good food, and lots of fun.  The best part is that it's all for a good cause.

Our 2014 GermanFest will benefit the three food pantries in our area - Chestertown, Horicon, and Schroon Lake. Funds will be matched by a generous contribution from Thrivent Financial.

The 2014 GermanFest will be Friday, October 3, starting at 6:00 PM.  See our flyer for more details.

Seating is limited so if you'd like a free ticket, please call our church office at 518-494-7077 or fill out a contact form.

Thank you to our sponsors: Oscar's, Thrivent Financial, and members of SonRise Lutheran Church. As our church now leases space from The Lakeside Camp, a ministry of Word of Life, GermanFest is a non-alcoholic event.

If you'd like to nominate a charity group (501 c 3) or an individual in need to benefit from this year's Oktoberfest, please send a letter stating who you nominate and why.  Your letter should be sent to our office and marked "Oktoberfest".
